KYU WON HAN: BARITONE

Kyu Won Han on stage

Kyu Won Han has made numerous appearances with San Francisco Opera since his 1999 debut. He was most recently seen with the Company as Moralès in Carmen, as Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly and in the San Francisco Opera Verdi Celebration recital, Verdi and the Art of Italian Song. The baritone made his European debut in 2001 as Ping in Turandot with Strasbourg's Opéra National du Rhin and appeared as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte with the New National Theater of Tokyo.

As Don GiovanniAn alumni of the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellowship Program, Han was featured in the title role of the Merola Opera Program's 1999 production of Don Giovanni, a role he repeated with Western Opera Theater's 1999 national tour. Additional credits with San Francisco Opera Center include Mr. Gedge in the 2000 Showcase presentation of Albert Herring, Mercurio in the 2001 Showcase production of Cavalli's La Calisto and a Schwabacher Debut Recital.

His concert credits include Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the Brahms Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Mahler's Eighth Symphony, Mozart's Coronation Mass, Schubert's Mass in G, Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, and Saint-Saëns's Oratorio de Noël.

At a Yerba Buena Gardens Special PerformanceA native of Seoul, Korea, Han received both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at the Manhattan School of Music. His numerous awards include the Belvedere Competition, the Mario Lanza Competition, the Oratorio Society Competition, the Licia Albanese/Puccini Competition, the Dicapo Opera Competition and the Connecticut Opera Guild Competition.

Han will appear with San Francisco Opera this season in Turandot. Upcoming engagements also include Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly with Opéra National de Bordeaux.
